Exodus 12 ~ Lessons from the Passover

Exodus 12:2 “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you.”

First thing we see is that when God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, He gave them a new calendar. The day of deliverance marked a new beginning for them. This new first month for them was the beginning of their new life as a free people. The old calendar of slavery was erased. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” The believer has experienced this wonderful truth. Upon his or her new spiritual re-birth, a new beginning and a life of freedom is marked, as the old life of slavery to sin is washed away, and the new life in Christ has come. In the words of Paul the Apostle, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery” and “Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love server one another” (Galatians 5:1, 13).
